Details

Though relatively young when compared to European cities, San Francisco is packed full of historic events over the last two centuries. On this 2-hour private walking tour, we’ll explore parts of the city that many locals have yet to explore, let alone tourists.

Smack bang in the center of downtown you’ll discover how the city has been shaped by such major events as the Gold Rush of 1849 and the Great Earthquake in 1906. Your private guide will show you how and where the west was won and you’ll have a better appreciation for how tough life was.

We’ll meander through the back alleys of the Financial District in search of sunken treasures and hidden passages. Hearing tales of fortunes made….. and lost. We pass by one of the tallest and most controversial buildings, the Transamerica Pyramid before making our way through a beautiful rooftop garden hidden among tall skyscrapers.

Excite your taste buds as we venture through Farmer’s Markets and sample the best almond brittle you’ve ever had from a 50-year-old family-run stall.

Look out across the bay while you learn about the more recent 1989 earthquake. We might even spot a sea lion!

The tour followed the ‘path least travelled’ and covered a range of destinations (and topics) that would never have been on our itinerary. As a private group, we also had the luxury of being able to ask questions at will.

Absolutely the best tour guide I've ever had. I have been to SF many times and even lived there years ago. Mike showed me things I had never seen. The 2 hours flew by. He checked with me frequently as to pace and topic. With so much knowledge of the area under his belt, he could easily switch to something else if I wan't happy with what he had initially selected. AS it turned out all of his suggestions and stops were interesting to me. I loved that he had so many photos of how the area looked in the past on his iPad. I'm still thinking of all of the places he showed me. My next trip to SF I'm booking his other tours! Thanks, Mike, for a great time.

It was fantastic to see different parts of San Francisco that we normally wouldn't think of going to! My husband and I were on our honeymoon and we like visiting places with a story. Michael easily shared something interesting about the highlights of SF and the areas we went to! Also he knew the best spots for photos which was great. Thanks for a unique experience!

Loved Mike's tour! I learnt so much about the city I work in that I knew nothing about previously. Mike was well prepared, knew his stuff and kept our group interested. The 2 hour tour absolutely flew by and I can't wait to go on another one!

I picked this tour based on the TripAdvisor ratings, and I wasn't dissapointed. Michael was friendly, made you feel comfortable at once, and gave us a great first view of San Francisco's downtown area. We saw places we would have NEVER looked at on our own, he answered all our questions, gave endless information and recommendations. I highly recommend this tour. The walking pace was easy - anyone could keep up - but it was Michael's upbeat attitude that really made this tour. Great guy, and a great tour.

Although I've lived in San Francisco for 10 years, Michael shared facts and history about the city that I had never heard before. He is a great storyteller and likes to keep his tour participants on their toes with fun trivia quizzes. In fact, I've already shared some of the trivia with other friends and family. In addition to walking around and pointing out key sites and historical facts - Michael will also give you a chance to try some local food favorites (like Humphrey Slocombe ice cream!), which is a nice addition to what is already an excellent tour. Avoid the dull hop-on, hop-off bus tour and go for this fascinating, personalized tour instead!

I you like walking, discovering a city by seeing things you would rarely see as a tourist reading his guide book and learning about the history while being in the actual places where the history took place, then The Boutique Traveler got you covered. It was a great experience and I now want to learn more about the San Francisco history. Great guide, knows about what he's talking about and very interesting. I highly recommend it !

Michael's walking tour is packed with historical anecdotes and stories! On top of that, you also get awesome photos taken and have access to them right after! Overall loved the tour! Recommended to a friend's family of 7 from Shanghai and they commented that this tour was the best part of their two week's US trip!
